Dr. Ronald Acus Goes Above and Beyond for Ronald
Ronald will be forever grateful for the care he has received from Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Raymond Acus.
“He’s a super doctor. I can’t say enough good things about him. He’s truly the best doctor with an excellent bedside manner who really listens to his patients,” Ronald said. “Crystal Clinic is the only place to go for orthopaedics.”
He first met Dr. Acus several years ago when he was injured in a car accident and Dr. Acus performed arthroscopic surgery on his left leg.
“He told me at that time that I would eventually need total knee replacements. Although I hoped to wait until I retired in about five or six years, Dr. Acus said I would probably need it sooner. He was right. A couple of years later in 2014, I had a total knee replacement on my right knee. Shortly after that, I had my left knee done.”
“Everything went great after my knee replacements, but two years ago, I developed a blood infection that attacked the replacement of my left knee,” he said. “This meant I had to have another knee replacement.”

After successful treatment of the blood infection, his infectious disease doctor reduced the dosage of his antibiotic to a maintenance level. Unfortunately, the infection returned, this time affecting his right leg, so Dr. Acus had to perform a second knee replacement on the right leg.
“I’ll need to take 2000 mg of amoxicillan for the rest of my life,” Ronald said.
Once again, Ronald made an excellent recovery following the second knee replacements and was soon back to leading an active lifestyle. He and his wife moved from Cuyahoga Falls to Marblehead, where he has a boat on Lake Erie and enjoys fishing.

This past February, Ronald fell and broke his leg, which also injured one of the knee implants.
He remembered Dr. Acus had given him his cell phone number, so he passed it along to his doctor at Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton.
Dr. Acus advised that because of the added complexity of Ronald’s leg injury, he should be brought to Crystal Clinic. He was transferred by ambulance from Port Clinton.
“That was on a Sunday. Since, I had taken my blood thinner that morning, Dr. Acus had to wait until Wednesday to operate. Everything went well. He put a plate in my leg to fix the break and repaired my knee replacement.”
Ronald’s recovery has gone well and he’s able to enjoy walks around his neighborhood and fishing with his grandsons. He and his wife are planning to visit their respective brothers in North Carolina and Arizona. This past May, he enjoyed dancing at his grandson’s wedding.

“I’ve sent a lot of people to Dr. Acus. He’s done two knee replacements on my wife and one on my oldest daughter. I wouldn’t let anybody else work on me,” he said. “Dr. Acus has really gone above and beyond for me and I can’t thank him enough. I love the guy dearly. He truly is a super human.”
