Services available with Hand Therapy
Our occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants are trained in:
Custom orthosis fabrication and adjustments (splinting):
Custom orthosis fabrication is a treatment provided by our therapists at the Center for Hand Therapy. Many of our patients require this treatment as part of their care to ensure that their hand or arm is properly supported in a brace that is custom molded to their arm or hand. The orthoses (braces) are molded directly to the patient using a low heat plastic that hardens as it cools. The patient leaves with the custom brace the day it is made. These custom orthoses can be remolded as the patient’s condition changes or to accommodate swelling.
Dry Needling – Finding relief through your trigger points
Dry needling is a technique that physical and occupational therapists can use in conjunction with other therapeutic interventions to treat muscle tension and spasms caused by a wide range of conditions such as arthritis, muscle or ligament strains, headaches, and nerve irritation. It is called “dry needling” because needles pierce the skin without injecting any kind of solution.
Myofascial Therapy – Rebalancing tissues after injury or chronic pain
Myofascial therapy helps to rebalance tissues through very gentle, hands-on techniques, stretching, and coaching to help the patient manage their symptoms. This technique is also used to resolve tight scars even when they are very old and can assist in regaining motion when a scar is limiting it.
