Judy’s Journey: Exceeding Expectations in Recovery
For several years, Judy suffered from chronic knee pain. She tried physical therapy and cortisone injections for a while, but she knew a knee replacement was inevitable. She put off the procedure for a few years, worried about the recovery and downtime.
However, when the pain and lack of mobility became too much, she knew it couldn’t wait any longer. In 2023, she had a knee replacement with Crystal Clinic’s Dr. Jordan Etscheidt and is thrilled with the results.
“Leading up to the surgery, I made sure I was ready by going to the gym almost every day and riding the recombinant bike to build my strength,” she said.
After surgery, she was committed to her physical therapy program, performing the home exercises twice a day, in addition to physical therapy sessions at Crystal Clinic. This helped to ensure her range of motion consistently improved, typically exceeding the expectations of her recovery.
“Three weeks after surgery, I met the six-week goal for my range of motion,” she said. “I was already feeling great and getting around quite well.”

By eight weeks, she was back to living an active lifestyle.
“I was able to kneel on the ground to garden, although I was told that kneeling probably wouldn’t be possible after surgery,” she said.
About a year and a half after her first knee replacement, she started to experience severe pain in the other knee. A visit with Dr. Etscheidt confirmed that this knee also needed to be replaced. With her daughter’s wedding around the corner, she opted to have the surgery as soon as possible so she would be able to dance at the wedding.
The second knee replacement with Dr. Etscheidt went just as well as the first, with Judy maintaining the same commitment to her post-surgery therapy. Her daughter’s wedding took place nine weeks after surgery, and Judy was able to dance the night away just as she had hoped.
“I would recommend Crystal Clinic to anyone. Dr. Etscheidt really listened to me and helped me reach my goal of dancing at my daughter’s wedding,” she said.
