Our Services

Crystal Clinic is a regional specialty center for outpatient treatment of conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system - bones, joints, muscles, tendons, skin, and related tissues. Opened in 1989, the clinic serves patients in Northeast Ohio and beyond, and has been recognized for its innovative approach to multidisciplinary orthopaedic care.

In addition to our main facility in Montrose, other convenient offices are located in Cuyahoga Falls, Medina, Kent, Stow, Barberton, Wadsworth, Akron, and several neighboring communities.

Crystal Clinic patients have access to 33 physicians and numerous specialized certified health professionals. Our focus is on comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation tailored to our patients’ individual needs.

Orthopaedic Care

Orthopaedics is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention of injuries and diseases of your body’s musculoskeletal system. This complex system includes your bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves and allows you to move, work, and be active.

Many conditions can lead to the need for treatment by an orthopaedic surgeon, the most common of these being degenerative and arthritic changes including osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Since there are many options available for treatment, both operative and non-operative, you need to be well informed to lessen the fear of seeking treatment for any of these conditions. Our recommendation is to seek the medical advice of a specialized physician who, after an appropriate physical examination, can give you individualized advice related to your specific medical condition.

Orthopaedic Specialties

Crystal Clinic is synonymous with specialized care in all areas. As one of the leading providers of orthopaedic care in Ohio, the physicians at Crystal Clinic are highly trained in treatment of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, spine, hip, knee, ankle and foot, including surgical and nonsurgical treatments for both adults and children. Crystal Clinic also treats a broad range of sports related injuries. Additionally, our physicians have completed advanced training in their chosen sub-specialties to ensure that patients receive the best treatment and expertise available. Crystal Clinic is committed to providing state-of-the-art medical procedures, individualized patient care, and physicians regarded for their medical expertise.

Our specialists are board-certified and fellowship-trained to offer a wide range of services in order to deliver outstanding sub-specialty care for patients, all within a single practice. At Crystal Clinic, we provide specialized treatment for most all orthopaedic conditions including:

Summit Hand Center

Summit Hand Center physicians evaluate and treat a wide array of disorders of the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder. Some of the more common problems include carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, tendonitis, tennis elbow, and fractures of the hand and wrist.

Additionally, more complex disorders that are diagnosed and treated include occupational trauma, inflammation, athletic injuries, arthritis, as well as congenital problems and overuse. When appropriate, surgery is performed by our board-certified, fellowship-trained surgeons who are well-versed in reconstructive and microvascular surgery of complex disorders of the hand, wrist, and elbow. And when indicated, minimally invasive techniques are utilized for a faster recovery and return to activity. We employ a team-oriented approach to treatment and often involve physical and occupational therapists to maximize functional outcomes for our patients who find this continuum of specialized care invaluable.

Ancillary Services

X-Ray

We are pleased to offer X-ray technology on-site. This technology helps our physicians diagnose many problems on your first visit making it unnecessary for you to go to an outside facility. This service is another way that Crystal Clinic strives to provide excellent patient care.

Physical Therapy

The physicians at Crystal Clinic commonly use physical therapy to preserve, develop, and restore optimal physical function. It is our belief that close physician and therapist coordination optimizes patient outcomes. To achieve these results, we now have a fully equipped modern therapy facility.

Crystal Clinic’s physical and occupational therapists treat individuals with impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities. To alleviate these limitations, they design, implement, and modify comprehensive therapeutic interventions.

MRI

Crystal Clinic offers on-site MRI examinations for the convenience of their patients. MRI, short for magnetic resonance imaging, has become an important diagnostic tool for orthopaedists, since it allows doctors to see in great detail both soft tissue, such as tendons and muscles, as well as hard tissue structures like bones. Unlike an X-ray the MRI in no way utilizes radiation.

With an MRI it is possible to view internal structures in thin cross-sections or “slices,” or in three dimensions, permitting a doctor to view an injury or disease condition from many angles. The information gathered from MRI examinations allows doctors to develop very accurate and effective treatment plans, because it takes much of the "guesswork" out of the diagnostic process.

Bone Densitometry

A bone mineral density (BMD) or bone densitometry is performed on patients to check for bone mineral loss. Osteoporosis is a condition caused by a loss of bone calcium. Thus, BMD is an effective way to find out if you are a candidate for osteoporosis or are osteopenic.

The bone densitometer uses low amounts of X-ray to produce images of the spine and hip area. A computer is used to achieve results based on categories designated by the World Health Organization (WHO). These categories are based on what is considered normal for your age group and a “young adult” at peak bone strength. This result is called your T-score. T-scores fall into three different categories per WHO. These include normal, osteopenic, and osteoporosis. This score, along with other factors, help doctors gauge your risk of an osteoporotic fracture or the need for medication.

Casting

We are proud to offer complete on-site casting service for all orthopaedic needs. Our highly-trained technicians will be able to fit you with just the right cast for a speedy return home and recovery.
