Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center physicians are impacting the future of medicine - not only in Northeast Ohio but around the country.

The Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center and Summa Health System continually seek new, innovative technologies and treatments for medical conditions. One research project underway is to determine whether taking Apatone^®B (a combination of vitamins C and K3) orally will reduce chronic joint discomfort and improve function of non-infected symptomatic postoperative total joint replacements.

Summa Health System is a founding member of the Austen BioInnovation Institute of Akron (ABIA), which focuses on patient-centered innovation and commercialization at the intersection of biomaterials and medicine.

Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center physicians are active members of Summa's teaching and medical education staffs. In 2011, the orthopaedic residency program grew from three to four residents. Fellowships allow residents to work both in the lab and in clinical care at Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center or Summa Health System.

In 2010, Summa Foundation received a $1 million gift from Robert and Joyce Rice and family to establish the Robert F. Kepley, M.D. Orthopaedic Fellowship at Summa Health System.

Research and training are integral to the future of patient care. The physicians of the Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center continually work to improve upon existing procedures and technology to ensure the best patient results.
