Coach Faust’s Golfing Without Knee Pain
As a successful football coach, Gerry Faust knows what goes into making a good team. When he wanted to get back to the activities he enjoys, Coach Faust chose the experienced team at Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center.
His knee pain stemmed from a football injury sustained during college. As the years went on, the pain became progressively worse. Increasingly, he was unable to do even the simplest tasks, such as sitting in a car or kneeling in church.
Soon after retiring from the University of Akron, coach Faust had knee replacement surgery at Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center. But he decided against therapy, believing he could rehabilitate the knee himself. Eventually, the knee began to slip, causing pain again which forced Coach Faust to revisit Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center.
Phillip Lewandowski, M.D., a joint specialist, performed knee revision surgery. After physical therapy that included land and aquatic exercises, coach Faust was back to enjoying his life, pain-free.
He says his new knee makes him feel like he is 50 again. (He turned 77 in 2012.) He plays golf regularly with his friends, spends as much time as possible with his three children and six grandchildren, and travels to deliver motivational speeches. He is also back to kneeling in church.
He says these activities would be next to impossible without the experienced team at Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center.
